If you answered "yes" to any of the above, you may be suffering from TMJ or a bite-related disorder.
TMJ is the inflammation of the temporomandibular joint. This joint connects your jaw to your skull and provides important functions as you talk, yawn and eat.
As a dentist committed to providing total care - Dr. Datta has pursued several key post-doctoral studies in the treatment of TMJ. For his patients it provides an important aspect of dental care not readily found elsewhere.
Understanding that you are uncomfortable, Dr. Datta’s first goal will be to relieve the muscle spasm and pain you are experiencing.
Relying on your history and the use of diagnostic tools such as diagnostic joint x-rays, a Doppler exam, bite exam, MRI scan and mounted diagnostic mount records, Dr. Datta will begin your TMJ care. His recommendations may include using bite splints, oral medications, physiotherapy or home based exercise.
Once your pain is under control, Dr. Datta will focus his efforts on treating the cause of the TMJ pain. This may require restoring your bite with crowns or reshaping your teeth to achieve proper bite, orthodontic treatment, or on very rare occasions, referral for TMJ surgery.
Dr. Datta is passionate about providing this solution to enhance his patients' health and protect cosmetic work. This Sterling dentist has devoted many hours of continuing training to this field as advancements continue to be made in TMJ treatments.
His training includes courses from Piper Educational & Research Institute, the Center for TMJ Diagnosis, Training and Treatment Center in St. Petersburg FL. This additional training puts him at the forefront of TMJ knowledge and care.
If you have concerns related to TMJ, call Dr. Datta to set-up a time to have your TMJ joints and your bite examined.
