Dental Bridge An Overview
Ridgetop Dental, a dentist office in Reston, VA, often recommends dental bridges as a solution for patients with missing teeth. Missing teeth can not only be an embarrassing dental problem affecting your daily life, but often leads to additional complex dental problems as a result of shifting teeth and shrinkage of bone in the jaw.
Replacing missing teeth with the most suitable option for your dental health is the key to a comfortable result. Reston, VA dentists, Dr. Datta Malyavantham and his associates, provide several options for tooth replacement and will determine which is best for you after a thorough examination and discussion of your personal concerns, goals and budget.
What is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge is a restoration that is used to “bridge” a gap between teeth. The bridgework is a series of prosthetic teeth linked together and supported by an anchor on either side of the gap. The Anchor that is supported on each side is by a natural tooth strengthened by a dental crown or a dental implant. In most cases, Dr. Datta will recommend using dental implants to secure your bridge due to the long term benefits to both daily quality of life and oral health. Dr. Datta and his associates at Ridgetop Dental in Reston, VA place high quality, ceramic bridges that can be supported and permanently secured with dental implants.

Dental Bridge What to Expect
Replacing missing teeth with a dental bridge will be a multi-step process beginning with treatment planning and diagnostics to assess your overall health and specific needs. Dr. Datta will evaluate the health of the teeth, gums, jaw joints and other support structures. You may have an existing dental bridge or have teeth that need to be extracted.
One of our Reston, VA dentists will thoroughly explain all of your available treatment options so that you can make the best decision for your long term dental health. Your dental bridge can be secured with two existing teeth that are strengthened by dental crowns or it can be secured by dental implants.
If you choose to use dental implants, a treatment plan will be put in place first requiring the surgical implant of the titanium post.
The dental bridge will be fabricated in a local dental laboratory to Dr. Datta’s specifications. You may have a temporary bridge to wear in the intermediate time period. In approximately 2 to 3 weeks from your initial visit, you will return to our Reston, VA dentist office for the delivery of the final restoration.
Ridgetop Dental offers sedation dentistry, including the option of IV sedation, to ensure that you are able to feel completely relaxed and comfortable during all steps or as necessary.
