Same Day Crowns: Benefits of Digital Dentistry

Dental crowns are custom made for you in either our Reston or Sterling dentist office and can often be completed in a single visit using CEREC technology. There are many advantages to this CAD/CAM technology for both dentist and patient:

  • Digital impressions: less discomfort and more accurate diagnostics for treatment planning.
  • 3-D imagery: the ability to see and use multi dimensional images of your mouth enables Dr. Datta to design your dental restoration more precisely and ensure that placement is stable.
  • Quality materials: CEREC can be used to create high quality porcelain and zirconia dental crowns for a result that is highly durable, aesthetically pleasing and fits comfortably within your natural smile.
  • Same day restorations: we can design, fabricate and place your custom crown during a single visit- no need to leave with an uncomfortable temporary and return for your new crown at a later date.

Dental Crowns What to Expect

Dr. Datta, Dr. Shaw or Dr. Sensenbrenner will meet with you to discuss your dental concerns and cosmetic goals before recommending a personalized treatment plan. Depending on the reason for your dental crown, smile design services may be offered to ensure that your result meets your cosmetic needs.

Once the treatment plan is finalized, one of our Northern Virginia dentists will prepare the tooth/teeth by removing a small amount of the natural tooth structure to accommodate the dental crown. With CEREC® technology, there is no the need for a temporary tooth cap. They will take digital images of the prepared tooth and create a digital 3-D model of the new dental crown. These images are used to mill a custom crown that is also color matched to your natural smile using our onsite dental laboratory equipment.  Your custom dental crown will be created while you wait!

In the same visit, we will place your new crown that is made to fit precisely over your prepared tooth. Once everyone is happy with the fit, look and position of the crown, we will permanently secure it for a comfortable fit. We will complete the process by polishing and smoothing the surface. You will leave our Northern Virginia dentist office with your final restoration in place.
