With a progressive approach and commitment to continuing education, the team of dental professionals at Ridgetop Dental helps patients achieve maximum relaxation in the dental chair. If you have any fears concerning dental treatment, discuss your apprehensions with the experts at Ridgetop Dental in Northern Virginia. Many patients suffer from fears related to dental procedures, common smells, and noises associated with them or generalized anxiety about their visit. In addition to fear and anxiety, if you have a very strong gag reflex or a low pain tolerance dental sedation can enable you to receive the treatment you need or desire while completely relaxed and comfortable.
Sedation dentistry can be life-changing for anyone suffering from poor oral health and complex dental problems as a result of avoiding the dentist chair for some time. Dr. Datta and the team at Ridgetop Dental welcome you to our Reston and Sterling dentist offices where we strive to provide the highest standard of care for your smile in a compassionate and personalized manner. We will meet with you to discuss your dental health and medical history, your fears and concerns and how we can help you restore a healthy, beautiful smile.
I have very high anxiety just thinking about going to the dentist, Dr. Datta was excellent and put me right at ease at the start of my appointment. A couple of weeks ago I also saw Dr. Diana, she was very friendly and also put me immediately at ease. Susie is the Dental Hygienist I’ve seen my last 2 visits, and she is so kind and gentle (and very funny, she had me relaxed and laughing the whole time). She made sure I was comfortable and explained every bit of the procedure as she was working on my teeth. I highly recommend Ridgetop Dental to anyone looking for a dentist, especially if you have high anxiety, they know how to make going to the dentist a good experience. Robert J.
Dental Sedation in Sterling VA
Dr. Datta offers options for dental sedation to meet your specific needs while receiving treatment. He will evaluate your oral health concerns and medical history before recommending the most suitable sedation to ensure that your procedure is safe as well as comfortable. We offer two types of sedation:
- Nitrous Oxide (Laughing gas): laughing gas is an odorless gas inhaled through the nose. One of the key benefits is that it takes effect immediately and wears off just as quickly.
- IV sedation: Ridgetop Dental is one of few Northern VA dentist offices providing the option of IV sedation. Your sedation will be administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist in the comfort of our modern dentist office.
- General Anesthesia: When other forms of sedation are not sufficient to conquer fear, we offer general anesthesia, which will put you in a sleep-like state during your dental treatment. Your sedation will be administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist in the comfort of our modern dentist office.
Dental Sedation FAQs
Is it okay to sleep after sedation?
Yes, it is perfectly fine to take a nap or go to sleep after you get home from dental treatment with sedation. It is better to rest at home than to go back to work or operate a vehicle. Dental sedation options are safe to use and can wear off more quickly if you rest afterward.
How long does dental sedation last?
Dental sedation can wear off almost immediately or can last for 24 hours. The length of the sedation effect will depend on which sedation option you choose. The only one that wears off before you leave the dentist office is Nitrous Oxide sedation. For the other options, you should have a friend or family member drive you to-and-from your appointment.
Is sedation dentistry covered by dental insurance?
No. Unfortunately, most basic dental insurance plans will not cover sedation dentistry. Insurance companies do not see the value in sedation dentistry for phobic patients, and consider it a luxury, non-essential option. We offer dental financing to help you afford the dental care you deserve.
