Tooth Extractions What to Expect
The tooth extraction process is generally a quick and relatively simple procedure in most cases. We will administer the anesthetic or dental sedation decided upon and make sure you are comfortable before beginning the extraction.
To remove a tooth, your dentist will use special tools to release the small ligaments holding the tooth in place. Using a gentle rocking motion, your tooth will slowly be pulled from the socket and disconnected from the root. This is when most patients will feel pressure in the jaw, but there is typically little to no pain during the procedure.
Once complete, we will clean the socket and place gauze to put pressure on the wound and minimize bleeding. We will provide specific after care instructions to help you recover as quickly as possible. This can include a soft diet and the use of an antibacterial or salt water rinse for preventing infection.
